Obama Hits Back at Museveni Over Signing the Anti-Gay Bill

As Ugandans anxiously wait for the recently passed Anti-Homosexuality Bill to be signed into law , U.S president Barack Obama has hit back at President Museveni saying, signing the bill will mark a “step backward” for all Ugandans and reflect poorly on the country’s commitment to protect the human rights of its people.

In a written statement issued from southern California, where he was spending the weekend, President Obama said that ; “The Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda, once law, will be more than an affront and a danger to the gay community in Uganda. It will be a step backward for all Ugandans and reflect poorly on Uganda’s commitment to protecting the human rights of its people. It also will mark a serious setback for all those around the world who share a commitment to freedom, justice and equal rights.”

U.S. National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, has also asked Museveni not to sign the Bill into Law.

At the end of the NRM Retreat in Kyankwanzi last week,President Museveni said that he is going to sign the Anti –Homosexuality Bill into Law.
